Therapy for Children & Teens
Hi, I’m Aubrey, a Licensed Family Therapist and former school counselor specializing in work with children, adolescents, and families in the Nolensville and Brentwood areas.
Growing up today can feel overwhelming in ways that aren’t always easy to explain. Many young people carry anxiety, pressure, or emotional experiences that show up in behavior, relationships, or school. At Nolo Counseling, I provide a steady, supportive space where children and teens can begin to understand themselves, build their coping skills toolbox, and feel more confident navigating their world.
I know how hard it can be to watch your child struggle and not always know how to help. Sometimes the changes are obvious, and sometimes they’re more subtle: increased anxiety, emotional outbursts, shutting down, school stress, difficulty with friendships, or simply not seeming like themselves lately.
You may feel stuck between wanting to help and not knowing what they need from you anymore. I work closely with families to provide guidance, support, and practical insight along the way.
You don’t have to navigate this alone.
My Background
My path to becoming a therapist has been shaped by experiences across healthcare, education, and community mental health settings, each of which has influenced the way I support children, teens, and families today. I earned my bachelor's degree in Psychology from the University of Florida and went on to receive my master's degree in Family Therapy from UMASS - Boston in 2010.
I completed my clinical internship with the Duke Cancer Patient Support Program in Durham, NC, where I had the privilege of supporting individuals and families navigating some of life's most difficult moments. Following graduate school, I worked in community mental health before transitioning into private practice and school-based mental health, where I discovered my passion for working with children and teens. Over the years, my work has included supporting young people through grief & loss, family transitions, school-related concerns, anxiety, depression, and trauma.
A Little More About Me
Before settling in Tennessee, I had the opportunity to live and work internationally for several years. I spent three years working as a counselor at an American School in Ecuador, a chapter of my life that broadened my perspective and deepened my appreciation for the many ways culture, family, and community shape our lives. When the pandemic unexpectedly changed my plans abroad, it ultimately brought me to Nashville, where I have built both my professional career and personal life.
When I'm not in the therapy office, you'll often find me taking a yoga or Pure Barre class or enjoying time with my husband, three stepsons, and our two dogs, who keep life wildly entertaining.
As someone who is part of a newly-blended family, I understand that family life can be both rewarding and complex. These experiences have shaped how I understand the resilience, growth, and connection that can emerge through life’s transitions and challenges.
